Hot Knife is a digital literary magazine/blog focused entirely on music. We seek to publish work at the intersections of music and literature—the more experimental and genre-exploding, the better. We seek to publish creative work inspired/incited by music; creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, critical-ish/hybrid essays, etc, etc. Hot Knife is also a love letter to the early days of blogging and intimate online writing about music. We are currently open to external submissions. (As we are a relatively new publication, run primarily by a single person, unfortunately we cannot pay contributors right now—though we fully realize how limiting this is and believe that writers should be compensated for their labor, always.)

And yes, the name is an homage to Fiona Apple.

Hot Knife was previously sponsored by the Kelly Writers House at the University of Pennsylvania and was run by a small student staff who helped build the magazine from the ground up. It is now (post-graduation) an independent publication run by its founder.
